Just Announced 5.17.11

::Just Announced::

Debbie Davies Band - Saturday, July 23rd @ 8:00 PM

Davies rise to the upper echelon of blues music started at an early age as she absorbed the music heard constantly in her home. Her (professional) musician parents were either sitting at the piano or spinning discs on their turntable, filling the air with the sounds of big band jazz, harmony vocal groups, or the pop icons of the day. But the young Davies was particularly attracted to the bluesier sounds of her father’s Ray Charles records, and by the age of 12 realized that her affinity for an instrument was not for the piano, but for the guitar.
“She wields an electric guitar as if it were a wand.”- Los Angeles Times
“Davies playing is extraordinary - full of propulsion and energy and melodic invention…” People Magazine

Guy Davis & Professor Louie and The Crowmatix -- Friday, September 16th @ 8:00 PM

He’s got some Blind Willie McTell and some Fats Waller, some Buddy Guy and some Taj Mahal. He’s got some Zora Neale Hurston and some Garrison Keillor. He’s a musician, composer, actor, director and writer. But most importantly—Guy Davis is a bluesman. The blues permeate every corner of Davis’ creativity. Professor Louie & The Crowmatix started touring and recording their own music in 2001. The group came into existence preparing songs for Aaron Professor Louie Hurwitz' studio productions for the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame group The Band. They are also the backing group for solo CD's by Rick Danko, Levon Helm and Garth Hudson.Professor Louie & the Crowmatix have the distinct honor of being the only artists to have a live concert recording released by The New York State Museum entitled The Spirit Of Woodstock.

The Steel Wheels -- Friday, November 4th @ 8:00 PM

The Steel Wheels are truly an Americana band, rooted in musical styles that explore the territories between blues and bluegrass, old-time sing-alongs and foot-stompin’ fiddle tunes. They are subtle innovators who respect the past but whistle their own tunes, layering in rich textures and decidedly modern energy to forge a new sound.
They fit best among musicians like Langhorne Slim, Gillian Welch, or Adrienne Young and Little Sadie (with whom they’ve shared the stage) – deft musicians making a name for themselves by creating their own particular permutation of traditional forms. Yet the Steel Wheels share much with new Americana favorites like the Avett Brothers or Old Crow Medicine Show, with charisma that causes toes to tap and heads to nod, audiences hanging on their every word.
